Structure and Board
Gaeloideachas was founded as Gaelscoileanna Teo. in 1973; a national, voluntary organisation supporting the development of Irish-medium schools at primary and at post-primary level.
As of July 2014, Gaeloideachas is the lead organisation in the Irish-medium Immersion Education and Preschool sector. The organisation’s new role also includes the provision of support services for Irish-medium schools in Gaeltacht areas. Gaeloideachas provides advice, assistance and support to people who wish to have their children educated through the medium of Irish, as well as support services and advocacy for those working in the sector.
The schools are members of the company and it is the members who elect the officers and directors at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting. There are seven officers and up to thirteen directors permitted on the board, which is made up of parents, teachers and members of boards of management in Irish-medium schools.
