Rith 2012 ag teacht go Gaillimh

Is in Inis Mór, Árann, a chuirfear críoch le Rith 2012, ar lá le Pádraig na bliana seo, tráth a bhainfear amach ceann scríbe ollrith 1,000km a chuirfear tús leis sa Bhun Beag, Gaoth Dobhair, ar Déardaoin 8 Márta.

Is féile náisiúnta é Rith 2012 a bheidh ar siúl ón 8-17 Márta mar cheann de phríomhimeachtaí Sheachtain na Gaeilge. Tá cúrsa 1000km leagtha amach chun ollrith sealaíochta a dhéanamh, ag rith ó mhaidin go hoíche thar 10 lá leis na mílte duine ag glacadh páirte ann thar 200 baile.

Beidh baitín sealaíochta speisialta, le teachtaireacht fholaithe istigh ann, á iompar ag Rith 2012 ó thús go deireadh. Ag críoch an rith, léifear amach an teachtaireacht tacaíochta seo don Ghaeilge  in Inis Mór.

Beidh páirt lárnach ag Contae na Gaillimhe freisin sa Rith mar ag 8.45r.n. ar an 16 Márta fágfaidh reathaithe Rith 2012 Baile Locha Riach agus iad ag dul tríd Bhaile Átha an Rí, Órán Mór, cathair na Gaillimhe agus ceantar Chois Fharraige agus iad ar a mbealach chuig an Cheathrú Rua.

Is féidir le haon duine rith ar aon chuid den chúrsa. Ní gá do dhuine aonair clárú, ach tá rogha ann do chiliméadar féin a cheannach, agus leis an rogha seo rithfidh tú le do ghrúpa cairde chun tosaigh le duine agaibh ag iompar an bhaitín. Má tá grúpa nó scoil ag iarraidh páirt a ghlacadh sa Rith, seilbh a ghlacadh ar an mbaitín agus rith chun tosaigh, is féidir leo é seo a dhéanamh ach ciliméadar a cheannach.

Is slí nua é Rith 2012 chun teanga agus cultúr na Gaeilge a cheiliúradh go feiceálach i bpobail ar fud na hÉireann agus airgead á bhailiú d’fhorbairt na Gaeilge ag an am céanna.

While in both the fee-paying sector and Irish-medium schools teachers place less emphasis on providing differentiated activities, they place a greater emphasis on hands-on activities, using play to facilitate learning and encouraging pupils to find things out for themselves. In contrast, they appear to rely less frequently on more traditional approaches like copying notes from the board.

Lch. 43: Teaching methods are found to vary by school characteristics. In keeping with the descriptive analyses presented above, teachers in girls’ schools are more likely to use more active approaches than those in boys’ or coeducational schools. In addition, teachers in gaelscoileanna are more likely to use active methods than those in English-medium or Gaeltacht schools.

Lch. 45: More active teaching approaches like pair-work, group-work and hands-on activities are all more prevalent among recently qualified teachers and decline in prominence with length of teaching experience. This is a significant finding and may signify an important shift in teacher training methodologies over time. There is also evidence to suggest that teachers take different approaches in different school and classroom contexts – with more active methods adopted in single-sex girls’ schools, fee-paying schools and gaelscoileanna, and more teacher-centred approaches in rural DEIS and urban band 1 DEIS schools.

Lch. 57: Not surprisingly, children in Irish-medium schools are more positive about Irish  than those in English-medium schools (see Figure 4.9), with the most positive attitudes evident among children attending gaelscoileanna. Interestingly, children attending Irish-medium schools, both gaelscoileanna and Gaeltacht schools, also have more positive attitude to Reading than those in English-medium schools. No variation is evident in attitudes to Mathematics by language medium of the school.

Lch. 59: Not surprisingly, children attending gaelscoileanna  have more positive attitudes to Irish than those in English-medium schools. Interestingly, however, no significant differences are found between Gaeltacht and English-medium schools in attitudes to Irish. Finally, attitudes to the three subjects do not vary between DEIS and non-disadvantaged schools.

Lch. 61: As might be expected attitudes towards  Irish are more positive among children attending gaelscoileanna, although no significant differences are found between Gaeltacht and English-medium schools in attitudes towards Irish.

Lch. 62: It is of policy concern too that some groups of children, namely, girls, those attending fee-paying schools, those attending gaelscoileanna and those in non-disadvantaged schools, have greater access to the kinds of active methods which may engage them in learning. Couched differently, boys and children from disadvantaged backgrounds, groups with lower levels of achievement later on in the school system, are less likely to experience active and engaging settings for learning. The reasons for such differences are unclear from the data available here, but may reflect group-work and pair-work being seen as ‘easier’ to manage with more engaged groups of students.

AGUS próiseas nua comhairliúcháin fógartha ag Foras na Gaeilge faoin tSamhail Nua Mhaoinithe, d’fhógair na 19 eagras bunmhaoinithe inné gurbh ábhar imní acu go raibh an foras le deireadh a chur lena maoiniú.

Athrú ó bhonn ar chúrsaí maoinithe teanga a bheadh i gceist leis an chóras nua maoinithe. In áit eagras a mhaoiniú le hobair a dhéanamh in earnáil ar leith, is mian leis an fhoras conradh a bhronnadh ar iomaitheoirí le scéimeanna a reáchtáil ar feadh tréimhsí socraithe.

Thug na heagrais dheonacha le fios go gcuirfeadh cur chuige nua seo “ar bhonn córas scéimeanna iomaíocha dochar tromchúiseach, do-leasaithe don Ghaeilge … Murab ionann agus an saol tráchtála mar a gcuirtear seirbhísí ar conradh, ní oirfeadh cur chuige ar bhonn tairiscintí chun freastal ar riachtanais an phobail ó thaobh na Gaeilge de”.

Dúirt siad go ndeachaigh moltaí an fhorais “i gcoinne choincheap na pleanála teanga agus an riachtanas go mbeadh leanúnachas i soláthar seirbhísí. An acmhainn is mó atá ag na heagraíochtaí ná an fhoireann atá ag obair dóibh. Faoi réir mholadh an fhorais, áfach, bheadh ar gach eagraíocht scaoileadh leis na fostaithe acu a bhfuil a bpostanna á maoiniú ag an fhoras”.

D’aithin na heagrais an gá leis an luach airgid ab fhearr a fháil ach ní fhacthas dóibh go ndéanfaí sin faoin tsamhail nua.

Cúrsaí Gaeilge agus Gaeltachta le plé sa Seanad Dé Céadaoin

Reáchtálfar díospóireacht sa Seanad ar chúrsaí Gaeilge agus Gaeltachta tráthnóna amárach, Dé Céadaoin 18 Eanáir ag 2 i.n.

Ba é an Seanadóir Trevor Ó Clochartaigh a mhol an díospóireacht agus is deis iontach  é seo chun ardán náisiúnta a thabhairt do na mórcheisteanna atá ag déanamh imní  do phobal na Gaeilge dar leis.

Ag labhairt dó ag Tóstal na Gaeilge ag an deireadh seachtaine nocht sé an tuairim go raibh ionadaithe i dTeach Laighean aineolach go leor ar na ceisteanna atá ag déanamh tinnis do phobal na Gaeltachta. Dúirt sé áfach go dtugann díospóireachtaí mar sin deis do Sheanadóirí páirt a ghlacadh sa phlé.

Ar na hábhair is mó a bheidh idir chamáin ag na Seanadóirí beidh an t-athbhreithniú ar Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla, An Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge, Todhchaí Údarás na Gaeltachta, Cónascadh Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga le hOifig an Ombudsman, Maoiniú na n-eagras Gaeilge agus Gaeltachta agus ciorruithe i scoileanna tuaithe agus Gaeltachta.
