December 5, 2016

A commitment from the Infrastructure Minister to provide road safety materials in Irish has been welcomed by a Derry councillor..

Sinn Fein’s Kevin Campbelll was speaking after Chris Hazzard committed to increasing the level of road safety education resources available in the Irish language.

Cllr Campbell said: “These resources will provide Irish medium schools with road safety teaching materials.

“School children and young people are among the most vulnerable groups who use our roads and any steps to promote road safety should be welcomed.

“It is important children and young people are taught road safety both at home and at school and I am pleased the growing Irish Medium sector has the learning resources require.”

Cllr Campbell concluded: “I welcome the fact that Minister Hazzard will investigate the possibility of An tÁisaonad (funded by Foras na Gaeilge) at St Mary’s University College, translating suitable further road safety teaching resources into Irish.”
