Raidió Rí-Rá available on DAB

July 11, 2012

Irish language media took a step forward recently with the announcement that the Irish Language youth radio station, Raidió RíRá would be available on DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) from 1 July onwards.

DAB is high quality broadcasting system used in over 40 countries worldwide. Analogue signals are converted to a digital format, providing a better sound quality than FM.
Raidió Rí-Rá is the first chart station to run completely through Irish for young people where listeners can listen to the latest pop music, send in requests and check out Ireland’s Official Top 40.

The station began broadcasting online in 2008 and on FM from 2009 – 2001 and has thrived since then with an audience of over 4,000 listeners worldwide. RíRá’s achievements include 2 nominations at Gradaim Chumarsáide an Oireachtais in 2009 and 2001 and a full article in the station in this year’s Junior Cert Paper 1.

The station provides a wide range of stations during the week – Maidin Mhaith with Cillian de Búrca, An Lón Mór with Áine Ní Ghráda, Na Singlí Scaoilte with Síne Nic an Ailí, TRL ar Éileamh with Illy Ó Ceallaigh, Fuaim Eile with Traic Ó Braonáin and Top 40 Oifigiúil na hÉireann with Daithí where hit music can be heard by artists such as Nicky Minaj, Kanye West, The Coronas, The Dirty 9s, Jessie J, Cheryl Cole and much more.  Extra programs are broadcast at the weekend including ‘Dioscó Dána’ and ‘Clár na nOchtóidí’.

Raidió RíRá can be heard online ar www.rrr.ie, on the iPhone app, on the TuneInn radio app for Android, on DAB radios and Nokia phones.
