Irish language support classes for GCSE students in Derry

August 23, 2013

This year Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin is delighted to provide two schemes for students at the post primary level. The first course “Gabh le Gaeilge” is a support course for GCSE students undertaking GCSE Irish in 2014 or 2015. This 30 week programme will help students to obtain the best grade possible by providing them with the support that is needed with the help of a first class tutor. Sessions will run for 2 hours on a weekly basis at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin after school on Wednesdays. This scheme, which has been funded by Foras na Gaeilge, is the first of its type in Derry, and aims to raise the standards achieved in GCSE Irish.

The second scheme “Léann Do Dhéagóirí” is a unique course for students who previously attended Gaelscoileanna and are now attending English-Medium post-primary schools. This programme is the only current provision in Derry for these students. The course aims to ensure that students continue to learn Irish at the correct level, and offers students the possibility of achieving qualifications in the language. This course has been running for the past three years at the Cultúrlann and the highly skilled tutor has ensured excellent standards and results.

Both courses begin in September 2013, and the enrolment fee for both courses is £20 – an excellent bargain! For further information, or to register contact Ciara or Fiachra: ciara@culturlann-doire.ie / fiachra@culturlann-doire.ie or telephone 028 7126 4132.
