Provision of CPD Programmes for teachers working in the area of LS and Special Education – DES Circulars

In order to assist all schools and educational services in meeting the needs of students requiring learning support and the teaching of students with special educational needs, the Teacher Education Section of the Department of Education and Skills currently funds the provision of a number of CPD programmes as follows:

  • Combined Post-Graduate Diploma Programme of Continuing Professional Development for Teachers involved in Learning Support and Special Education – Circular 0001/2015.
  • Graduate Certificate in the education of Students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) for Teachers working with Students with ASDs – Circular 0002/2015.
  • Post-Graduate Certificate/Diploma Programme of Continuing Professional Development in Special Education (Autistic Spectrum Disorders) for Teachers – Circular 0003/2015.

Please be advised that the Circulars and application forms for these programmes will be available w.e.f. the 1st January on the Department’s website http://www.education.ie/en/Circulars-and-Forms/Circulars-and-Forms/. The closing date for completed application forms, which should be returned to the College or University of choice, is the 27th February 2015.

ASD Unit approved for Gaelscoil Bhaile Brigín

Gaelscoil Bhaile Brigín are delighted to have been given the approval of the Department of Education & Skills to open an ASD (Autistic spectrum disorder) Unit in the school.

“We hope that it will be open this time next year” said the school’s principal, Clodagh Ní Mhaoilchiaráin. “The whole school is thrilled and we’re hoping to get to work in the New Year. It will help us to care for the community we have in the school at the moment and for any future pupils with ASD whose parents would like them to stay in Irish-medium education.”

Department of Education & Skills announces school buildings programme for 2015, 18 Irish-medium schools to get new school buildings

Gaelscoileanna Teo. is delighted that 18 Irish-medium schools have been included on the list published today by the Department of Education & Skills for the 2015 school buildings programme. New school buildings will be provided for the schools below, some of which have been in temporary accommodation for almost 30 years. We wish them the very best with the building projects and hope that the staff and students will be very happy in their new surroundings.

The Irish-medium schools on the 2015 buildings list are as follows:

Training for Boards of Management in October 2014

A ‘Child Protection’ training module will be put in place by Gaelscoileanna Teo and an Foras Pátrúnachta in October 2014, for all Boards of management.

We are delighted to announce, this years trainer will again be educational expert, Eileen Flynn.

Training will be provided for the module ‘Cosaint Leanaí’:

In the Cork Education Centre on Thursday, October 16th, between 7.00p.m. and 9.00p.m.

In the Green Isle Hotel Dublin on Wednesday ,October 22nd , between 7.00p.m. and 9.00p.m.

Board of management representatives from each school are welcome to attend. Schools are required to fill in the registration form available here and send it to nora@gaelscoileanna.ie.

Should anyone attending the training seminar require a simultaneous translation, please notify Nora – it will be availably on request only.
