Rith Beo fun run in Gaelscoil Osraí

April 14, 2016

Local athlete Eoin Everard — winner at the recent 1500m and 3000m GloHealth National Senior Indoor Championships — with Kilkenny hurlers Cillian Buckley and Conor Fogarty, officially launched the annual Rith Beo 5k and 10k race and fun run at Gaelscoil Osraí on Friday morning.

The Rith Beo event, sponsored by Affidea Ireland, Ireland’s leading diagnostic service provider, will take place on Sunday, May 22, beginning at the Gaelscoil. All monies raised will go towards the purchasing of furniture and specialised learning equipment for the library.

This is the fourth year the chip-timed 10km race has taken place, with large numbers participating. This year, there is also a separate 5km corporate team event (as well as the 5k individual race) sponsored by Guiney’s Kilkenny, where firms, companies, shops, restaurants and sports clubs will actively compete against each other to secure the ultimate bragging rights in Kilkenny.

“Táimid ag tnúth go mór le Rith Beo 2016,” duirt Seán Ó h-Argáin, Príomhoide, Gaelscoil Osraí.

“Is lár-chuid de shaol ár scoilne anois í agus cuireann sé go mór le sláinte agus sonas ár bpáistí, foireann agus tuismitheoirí.

“As a health-promoting and active school we look forward to all our walkers and runners reaching their new milestones. In supporting Rith Beo we also thank all our sponsors and participants for helping all our children now and in the future reach their learning milestones in a state of the art library and learning space”.

At the launch, Tom Finn CEO of Affidea Ireland said the company was delighted to be able to support the Rith Beo Fun Run, and its cause, this year.

“The popularity of the event shows what a strong community Kilkenny has and we are pleased to be able to support the fundraising. We wish the event and every one participating every success,” he said.

Register online for the event by logging on to www.totaltiming.ie or alternatively at the Gaelscoil Osraí on the morning of the race. For more information please check out Rith Beo Facebook page or follow on twitter: @rithbeo.

Work underway on new building for Tuam Gaelscoil

April 13, 2016

Contractors have started excavation works for the development at Vicars choral, and it’s expected that the overall project will take about 30 weeks to complete.

The new 12 classroom school will cater for up to 200 pupils – with seven mainstream teachers as well as resource and learning support teachers.

The Department of Education confirmed the new building in June 2014 following a long-running local campaign.

However, construction was delayed for a year because of a legal issue regarding access, and pupils attended the temporary school at Tuam Community Centre.

Galway East Independent TD Sean Canney says it was a difficult campaign for all involved.
