Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2016 nominees announced by Gaillimh le Gaeilge

March 23, 2016

Gaillimh le Gaeilge have announced the nominees for Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2016, and two new national media sponsors for the Gradam, the Sunday Business Post and TG4.

Gaillimh le Gaeilge has been running Galway’s own bilingual business award, Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, for the past 14 years and Gradam 2016 is shaping up to be one of the best yet, with 20 top-quality Galway businesses nominated for the prestigious award. The Gradam is named in honour of the late Seosamh Ó hÓgartaigh, founding member and company secretary of Gaillimh le Gaeilge, and celebrates companies and organisations in Galway City that use Irish in the day-to-day running of their businesses and who, in doing so, contribute to Galway’s vibrant atmosphere and reputation as a city of culture. This year’s nominees as well as previous nominees and winners deserve a special mention in 2016 due to the role Galway’s vibrant bilingual atmosphere played in securing Galway’s status as Ireland’s first bilingual city and her place on the shortlist for the European City of Culture 2020.

“The Irish language is an integral part of Galway City life, and this is evident in the work that our 20 nominees for Gradam 2016 have done to promote the language over a diverse range of sectors,” say organisers. “11 of our 20 nominees are entering the Gradam for the very first time, and Gaillimh le Gaeilge feels that this strongly reflects the growing interest in and support for the Irish language in Galway city.”

The nominees for Gradam 2016 are divided into four categories: Retail, Hospitality and Tourism, Services and Other Companies. A winner will be chosen in each of these four categories, and these four category winners will then go head-to-head for the prestigious title of overall winner. Gaillimh le Gaeilge would like to thank their sponsors for providing prizes and benefits worth €25,000 in total, as well as offering extensive publicity and acclaim for the Gradam’s overall winner each year.
