“This year’s Education Conference is of particular significance”, says Bláthnaid ní Ghréacháin, Chief Executive of Gaelscoileanna Teo., in light of the substantial changes in the roles and functions of the organisation since being chosen as the lead organisation in the Irish-medium/Immersion Education and Irish-medium Preschool Education sector at the beginning of 2014. “The organisation is engaged in a planning process to enable effective functioning in all areas of the organisation, subject to necessary resources being made available. The new remit includes the early years sector outside the Gaeltacht, as well as primary and post-primary schools within the Gaeltacht”.

“This conference presents a wonderful opportunity for Irish-medium schools, both within and outside the Gaeltacht, as well as for pre-schools, to have an input into the work of the organisation”, says Bláthnaid ní Ghréacháin.

Referring to the conference theme The Inspirational Continuity of Irish Medium Education, guest speaker, Dr TJ Ó Ceallaigh states, “with an emphasis on the implementation of the 20-Year Strategy, on literacy and numeracy, on new technologies etc., it is now timely to provide a fresh and comprehensive perspective on Irish-medium education to ensure excellence in the quality of teaching and learning – excellence that is progressive and inspirational. This conference will give teachers an opportunity to explore the inspirational continuity of Irish-medium education by examining issues and contemporary developments at different levels and from new perspectives.

President of the organisation, Máirín Ní Chéileachair, welcomes all delegates, guests and stakeholders to the conference, where a, “comprehensive and meaningful programme for all Irish-medium schools” will be provided. The importance of the Gaelscoileanna Teo. annual education conference is widely recognised, not only due to its contribution to the continuous professional development of Irish-medium schools, but also as a public celebration of the excellence of the Irish-medium schools and it is a honour for us to be involved in that celebration”.
