“Solas” is a project created by Irish language group, Seo Linn. The aim of ‘Solas’ is to shine a light on the importance of conserving the Irish culture and heritage, while also showing people, young and old, that Gaeilge is a living and functioning language. The workbook contains lyrics, melodies, chord progressions, games, exclusive interviews with prominent Irish sports people and it aims to get people actively involved with the songs they are listening to on the CD. We are working hard to bring this Irish-language project to as many places around the world!
In essence, our aim is to make the Irish language as enjoyable and accessible as possible, in this case, through the medium of music. We have had great success to date with the project, especially via our Youtube and online presence with both Seo Linn and TG Lurgan. Now we need your help in furthering our campaign and reach as many people around the world who are learning or wants to learn the Irish langauge

PLEASE NOTE:
‘Solas’ album + workbook is an individual resource, aimed primarily at the students. We want the students to be able to BRING their workbook home and attempt the exercises while also getting to listen to their CD. Yes, teachers can use this as a resource but PLEASE offer the students in your class the option of ordering the Solas package as they’ve been created with the number one priority of being for the students.
This workbook was designed by Seo Linn, as three of the four are qualified teachers. They’ve put a lot of time and effort into the workbook to ensure it’s of the best quality and filled with beneficial content. We’d appreciate if you didn’t purchase just one workbook and copy it as we didn’t create the workbook to be photocopied.
We’ve had a positive response already with many schools calling us and ordering copies for many class groups, we hope this continues.

Research bursaries awarded to M. Oid. san Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge students at Mary Immaculate College

On Saturday 07 October 2017, the Chairperson of An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG), An tUas. Dónal Ó hAiniféin, awarded research bursaries to the current cohort of M. Oid. san Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge students in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. A total of nineteen bursaries of up to €6,000 per student were awarded. At the awards ceremony an tUas. Dónal Ó hAiniféin said “COGG are delighted to support students on this excellent postgraduate programme, and the staff at Mary Immaculate College are to be highly commended for their pioneering work in this continuously evolving sector”.

The Programme Director, An Dr T.J. Ó Ceallaigh indicated that teacher preparation and professional development are critical steps in the evolution of effective language immersion education in Ireland. Speaking at the event, he said: “Despite the diverse and dynamic nature of immersion programmes, there is a significant dearth of research on a wide variety of topics relating to teacher development in immersion education. Now more than ever, emphasis needs to be placed on research and on teacher education and continuous professional development to reflect on and investigate the merits and challenges of Irish-medium immersion education in and outside Gaeltacht areas. Such meaningful professional dialogue is key for the continued success and growth of Irish-medium education in Ireland and language immersion education across the globe. We greatly appreciate the support provided by COGG”.
The Chief Executive of COGG, Muireann Ní Mhóráin said “I would like to congratulate Mary Immaculate College and the course director, An Dr T.J. Ó Ceallaigh for developing this master’s programme at such a pivotal moment for Gaeltacht and Irish-medium immersion education. It is certain that this programme will be of great benefit both to students and, consequently, to their schools”.
The postgraduate programme, An M. Oid. san Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge was officially launched in November 2013. It is the first postgraduate hybrid programme in the Republic of Ireland to incorporate a coherent set of modules designed specifically for immersion educators and other professionals in Irish-medium education in and outside Gaeltacht areas. Committee Progress
Parents of 38 children have thus far expressed an interest in their children attending a Naíonra in North Liatroim.
Coiste Naíonra Thuaisceart Liatroma (The North Liatroim Naíonra Committee) has met with the Leitrim County Childcare Committee who roundly welcome the possibility that a third Naíonra will open in Liatroim.
We have also been in touch with the Naíonra umbrella body Gaeloideachais who are delighted to support us in establishing the Naíonra.
Type of Provision
The type of provision provided will depend on parental demand and as such we would like you to fill in the attached questioner and email it back to us. It will be either a1. play school, 2.creche or 3.outdoor childcare
and will be either into 1.Sessional -3 hours – morning or afternoon 2. Part time – 4 hours 3. Full time – 6 hours.
and will either be a standalone facility or attached to another facility like a school or another childcare provider

What is a Naíonra
There are 327 Naíonraí established across the country.
A naíonra is an Irish-Medium pre-school, catering for children aged between three and five years of age, in which the Stiúrthóir, or creche worker, speaks only Irish in their interactions with the children. Under the guidance of the trained Stiúrthóir the children learn Irish through play, nursery rhymes and songs.
A Naíonra generally includes children from English speaking homes, where it serves as a form of early immersion in Irish, and also children from Irish speaking homes, where it offers mother-tongue support, as well as exposure to English from the other children. Being exposed to Irish as a living language this early makes acquiring the language far easier as they continue their schooling and also compliments any other language the child may be exposed to at home.
