The webwise education officer will assist in the development, delivery, and support of training and development programmes for teachers, parents and those who work closely with children. They will be involved in promoting safer more effective use of the internet by children through the development of a wide range of educational and awareness raising resources. They will also be expected to provide full administrative support on the webwise internet safety awareness initiative of Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST). This includes the provision of pedagogical, technical, project management and communications support. We believe that young people are critical participants in the development of programs which affect them. We strive to include their voice in our development process. The webwise education officer will facilitate the work of our youth advisory panel and assist in the development of educational resources.

Profile and skills

The applicant should have:

  • A recognised teaching qualification.
  • An excellent command of English, both spoken and written. Irish would be an asset.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to juggle priorities and assignments.
  • A good work ethic, able to work well in teams and independently, sometimes to short deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Experience in teaching at Primary or Post Primary level (the teaching of Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) would be an asset).
  • Some relevant experience working with children and/or young people.
  • Experience in educational resource development.
  • Training delivery /curriculum development experience.
  • Experience of working with web publishing tools and content management systems
  • Experience of using online marketing and promotion tools
  • Innovative ideas and experience in using Web 2.0 technologies, and audio and video resources.
  • Thorough knowledge of ICTs and their application in first and second level education for learning and teaching
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills

Typical tasks include:

  • Creating educational resources
  • Recruiting, managing and facilitating a youth advisory panel
  • Contributing to the ongoing improvement of the information structure
  • Writing project assessment and progress reports
  • Providing full administrative support to the project to ensure efficient implementation
  • Providing full accounting and administrative support to the Coordinator with responsibility for the initiative
  • Work within the partnership of European projects to share and utilise European expertise to affect national awareness.
  • Liaise with European partners in pursuit of most effective progress in Internet Safety Awareness in Ireland and across the partner communities.
  • Other communications tasks
  • Contributing to meetings, reports, and communication strategies
  • Managing events and communicating with media.

The duties of this post may vary from time to time as the needs of the PDST Technology in Education vary. The education officer will carry out any other duties as may be defined by their line manager and/or Director in consultation with the post holder. The Webwise education officer must meet with the PDST- Technology in learning child protection policy requirements and must be willing to obtain Garda clearance.

The position is a twelve month fixed term contract with Dublin West Education Centre from June 2013. Candidates should be available to commence in no later than June 2013.

The person appointed will be based in the offices of the PDST Technology in Education (formerly NCTE) on the Dublin City University campus, Glasnevin, Dublin 9.

Annual leave entitlement will be 20 working days per annum pro rata, exclusive of Public Holidays. The normal hours of work will be 9.15am until 5.15pm, Monday to Friday. Salary offered will be commensurate with basic teacher qualifications and experience.
