Working in sub-standard accommodation leads to challenges for Gaelscoil pupils

June 1, 2016

A Donegal Gaelscoil says students there face serious challenges in terms of their education and health as a result of working in outdated prefabs.

The Gaelscoil na gCeithre Maistri in Brookfield, Donegal town is on the latest Capital list for a new School having operated out of four prefabs for over 17 years but work may not start until 2019.

But their efforts to get work started on the new school they say is falling on deaf ears at the Department.

Marcus Flannery, a parent and member of the Board of Management says they are calling for officials from the Department to come Donegal and see for themselves how urgent the situation is.

Mr. Flannery told Ocean FM News today that the prospect of going into another year in the current facilities is something neither staff nor pupils are looking forward to:

Petition to support a new multi-denominational Gaelscoil in North Dublin

June 1, 2016

733 children in North Dublin are without the choice of a multi-denominational Gaelscoil education in their area. Their parents are extremely disappointed that the demand for Irish-medium education in the greater Marino/Drumcondra/Dublin 1 area has not been recognised by the Department of Education & Skills. They have started a petition to the Department so that their first choice of primary education is provided for as a matter of urgency. Please support them by signing the petition below and spread the word.
